Hoy ellos atraviesan un dramático cambio de sus costumbres y tradiciones por el creciente turismo que los visita. Como resultado, el pueblo está dividido, aquellos que han ido a vivir cerca de Puno para recibir a los turistas y aquellos que rechazan los cambios y continúan viviendo como sus antepasados lo hicieron: cazando, pescando, recolectando; pocos jóvenes conocen de la sabiduría ancestral que se pierde día a día. Mientras tanto, libran una lucha en contra de el Estado Peruano que no los reconoce dueños del territorio donde han vivido siempre. María es una centenaria mujer uro, la más anciana de las islas, a través de ella y algunos otros pobladores de ambos lados tendremos un panorama de Los Uros en la actualidad. Los Uros is a town that have been living for centuries over the cold waters of lake Titicaca on flouting islands made by themselves of “totora”. Today, they are crossing through a dramatic change in their customs as the tourism grows. As a result, the town is divided, those who have gone to live near the city of Puno in order to receive more tourists and those who refuse changing and continue living like their ancestors did: hunting, fishing, gathering; just few old people connoisseurs of ancestral wisdom that is being lost by the new generations. Meanwhile, they are keeping a fight against the Peruvian State that refuse to recognize them like owners of the “territory” where they have lived always.
